Sorting numbers in maths
Posted: Oct 8, 2018 by: Generic Teacher (Teacher blog) on: Mulberry Class 2018-19
In maths this term, we have been learning counting in twos, threes, fives and tens.
We also used base 10 to count in fifties and hundreds. When we looked more closely at the multiples of 5, the children realised that they were in the same pattern as the multiples of 50.
We played a game of Fizzbuzz, where the children count in multiples of 10 (10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 etc) When they reach a multiple of 50, they are not allowed to say the number, but have to say FIZZ instead. When they reach a number that is a multiple of 50 and 100 (such as 100, 200, 300 etc) they are not allowed to say the number, but have to say FIZZBUZZ instead. Let your child have a go.
Can they then recite the multiples of 50 aloud e.g. 50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 etc
We then sorted 2 digit numbers into which are multiples of 5 or 10 or both.
We also sorted 3 digit numbers into which are multiples of 50 or 100 or both.
Here are some photos of the children busy sorting numbers.
